"If you feel safe and loved, your brain explores play and cooperation; If you are frightened and unwanted, your brain specializes in managing feelings of fear and abandonment."

Bessel van der Kolk

It takes courage and wisdom to reach out for support and accept guidance from others. As a loving and skilled parent you may find yourself feeling lost, blamed, and disempowered when your child has behavioral or emotional difficulties. Some problems come out of nowhere, while others are the result of generations of difficult genetics or unhealthy patterns. Sometimes it is a single incident that your child has experienced.

Parents and families are invited into the counseling process to increase positive interactions within the family and brainstorm solutions. Because all members of a family matter, siblings and extended family may be asked to join in.

Pamela views her role as a partner to parents in supporting their children and offering resources and tools to help their child grow and heal.

Our family affects who we are and who we become, both for the better and for worse. We learn our vocabulary, our habits, our customs and rituals, and how to view and observe the world around us. Anyone seeking healthier, closer family relationships can benefit from family therapy.

Common reasons for seeking family therapy include:

  • Divorce
  • Parent-child conflict
  • Problems between siblings
  • Domestic violence
  • Unexpected or traumatic loss of a family member
  • Family therapy addresses issues and heals a family’s wounds

Positive family therapy outcomes may include:

  • Develop and maintain healthy boundaries
  • Increase ability to communicate more effectively
  • Feel more connected with each other
  • Build compassion,  empathy, and understanding
  • Lower conflict within the family
